Open Upright MRI of Missouri Offers First-of-its-kind Imaging Technology in Missouri; Claustrophobic Patients, Others Benefit from Scanner’s Unique Design

People who are claustrophobic have a new option when it comes to receiving prescribed MRI.

Open Upright MRI of Missouri recently opened at 11737 Olive Blvd. in Creve Coeur. It offers Missouri’s only Open Upright MRI scanner. The center is a partnership of St. Luke’s Hospital, Center for Diagnostic Imaging and ProSight Radiology Group.

Open Upright MRI scanners offer claustrophobic patients the best alternative to high-field MRI. They are also appropriate for patients who cannot lie down due to pain or for those whose size prevents them from being evaluated in traditional MRI scanners. For most exams, nothing is in front of the patient’s face, and he or she can even watch television. The scanner also accommodates patients who weigh up to 500 pounds.

“Open Upright MRI of Missouri offers patients a high-quality imaging option that is available nowhere else in the state,” says Kishan Yalavarthi, MD, Open Upright MRI of Missouri Medical Director. “For patients who are claustrophobic or who otherwise would not fit, the ability to sit comfortably during most MRI exams and relax by watching television makes all the difference in helping them get through the exams so their physicians have all the diagnostic information they need to provide the best care possible.”

The scanner also offers unique positional imaging capabilities — patients can be scanned sitting, standing or in other positions if they feel pain.

Open Upright MRI of Missouri’s team is committed to making sure patients receive accurate and detailed information to guide each diagnosis and takes extra time to guide patients through each exam to ensure comfort. Services are designed with patient care in mind:

  • Scheduling is simplified by specialists who help navigate insurance requirements and pre-authorizations for imaging, as well as secure a prescription from the patient’s doctor.
  • Patient advocates are available to provide information about exam costs and insurance benefits.
  • Centers are designed to make patients feel comfortable and are easy to navigate.
  • Radiologists and physicians are specialists in imaging and partner with providers to deliver the information necessary to guide care.
